Michigan Medicaid is the state-funded health insurance for low-income individuals, families, pregnant women, and those with disabilities. Michigan made a decision to expand the Medicaid program and now offers coverage to 2.3 million Michigan residents. Michigan has been progressive in implementing their expansion by utilizing their Medicaid reform program Health Michigan.

Medicare is the federal health insurance for those who are 65 years of age or older, or who have a specific disability such as end-stage renal disease. If you have Medicare Part A today, you meet the requirements for qualified health coverage per the Affordable Care Act. Medicare Part B, unfortunately, does not meet this requirement so you will need additional health insurance coverage to avoid the Affordable Care Act penalty. Recently, the total number of Michigan Medicare beneficiaries reached 1.9 million.
